Maeve Jennings is part of the Litigation team at McCarthy + Co, working primarily with John McCarthy. More recently Maeve has moved into the role of Team Lead of the Litigation team, a role which she is relishing.

Having attended Carlow IT where she received her Honours Bachelor of Law Degree, Maeve went on to join McCarthy’s in September of 2018. Maeve greatly enjoys taking on new challenges and developing her skill set. Every day brings something new to her role.

When not working Maeve enjoys spending quality time with her family. Living near the sea, they take advantage of being able to go for walks on the beach or if brave enough, maybe even a swim.

Anne Marie McSweeney

Legal Executive

Anne Marie McSweeney is our legal executive and receptionist extraordinaire. Previously, Anne Marie worked in a variety of industries performing secretarial, customer service and financial management tasks. She spent 10 years with South Western before joining McCarthy + Co in late 2016.

Anne Marie loves the challenges that her role brings and the fact that she, most often, gets to be the first point of contact for clients. She thrives on providing excellent customer service and the idea that she may have helped to make someone’s day better.

When asked of her biggest learning experience in her role to date, Anne Marie says it would be “that keeping a positive attitude to whatever challenges facing you is vital to making each day a success”.

When not working, Anne Marie loves to spend time with her daughter and is widely known for her contributions to and her support of her local community.

Emma McSweeney

Legal Executive

Emma McSweeney is one of our legal executives on the McCarthy + Co team. Having joined in September of 2019, Emma has adjusted quickly to the fast-paced environment.

She says “every day is completely different” but that it is great working for a “friendly, innovative and modern” company right in the heart of West Cork.

Emer O’Regan

Legal Executive

Emer O’Regan joined McCarthy + Co in 2016 as a legal executive. Originally from Clonakilty, Emer studied Hotel Management in CIT and later became assistant manager of The Europe Hotel Killarney.

After leaving the hospitality industry and travelling to Australia for a year, Emer returned home and changed career directions. Emer thoroughly enjoys her role in McCarthy’s. She works with Clíodhna O’Regan and Lorna Helen on conveyancing and probate team. She says the days are busy, but no one day is the same and the variety of work is always interesting.

When Emer isn’t working she enjoys travelling, last year she went to New York and later this year she hopes to visit Canada. Emer’s fun fact she did a 15,000 feet sky drive over Mission Beach in Australia.

Aga O’Reilly

Legal Executive

Aga O’Reilly joined McCarthy + Co in March 2019 as part of the litigation support team, focusing on personal injuries and medical negligence. Most recently Aga has also been tasked with managing cost measures for the firm. Originally from Poland, Aga studied social education and upon moving to Ireland completed courses in Human resources and payroll.

With past roles primarily based within the hospitality and retail sectors, Aga has years of experience in customer service and applies this daily to her role in McCarthy’s. Her biggest learning curve to date has been the introduction to the legal sector and its unique complexities, but she is relishing the learning opportunity and enjoys adapting her own knowledge and experience to suit this role.

Niamh Tobin

Legal Executive

Niamh Tobin, a Union Hall native, joined McCarthy + Co in March 2018 as a legal executive in the Litigation team. Having previously worked in the Personal Injuries Assessment Board, Niamh knew that this was the career she wanted to pursue.

Niamh works primarily alongside Liam Crowley, litigation solicitor. She says she greatly enjoys helping clients and putting them at ease when they are going through a difficult time after an incident has occurred.

Outside of work, Niamh enjoys motorsport and travelling and sets a goal every year for the places she wants to visit.

Tom Murphy

Legal Intern

Tom Murphy works in McCarthy + Co as a legal intern, having joined in May 2019. In a role that was only due to be a summer internship, after graduating with a Bachelor of Civil Law and Irish Degree from UCC, Tom is still here and thoroughly enjoying his role.

Tom says that his biggest learning experience to date is realising that working in law and studying law are entirely different things and that practical skills are so important.

An interesting fact about Tom – as part of his degree, he got to spend a semester in the Wild West of Montana, USA and while there won the college hurling championships with the Montana Grizzlies.

Mags McCarthy

Financial Controller

Mags specialises in money, yours. Mags is our financial controller and office manager. In most businesses financial controllers are mainly concerned with getting money from the customers; Mags is much more concerned about minding our clients’ money.

Prior to joining McCarthy + Co. Mags worked in a variety of roles in the computer industry having worked for Dell, Visio and Apple specialising in the use of her foreign languages, she speaks French and Russian. Mags has a Bachelor of Arts from Queens University Belfast and a Diploma in Legal Studies from Griffith College.
