Frequently Asked Questions

Some of the questions our legal team are often asked in relation to family law.

  • Why do I need a family law solicitor?

If you own property, have a stake in a business or multiple businesses, have pensions or other assets, and you are going through a divorce or another type of breakdown in a family relationship, you will need a solicitor on your side who has experience in achieving fair settlements for their clients. Family courts in Ireland want to ensure equity, and agreements to financial disputes must be court approved. Our team have many years of experience dealing with the courts system in Ireland. We can help you secure the best possible future for you and your family.

  • ----------------------

  • Is it a legal requirement to appoint a solicitor in family law cases?

There is no legal requirement to appoint a solicitor in civil cases such as divorce settlements or child custody proceedings, however it is advisable to do so. The courts system in Ireland can be a challenging and intimidating experience for anyone who has not dealt with it before. You also need someone on your side who understands the law, understands your rights, and can fight your corner using this expertise. If you are worried about the cost of your legal fees, our friendly team will be happy to discuss how much your case might cost and the benefits of working with us to achieve your desired settlement.

  • ----------------------

  • When should I hire a family law solicitor?

If you are dealing with a situation in your family regarding a dispute or a settlement, then it is likely that you will need to hire a solicitor specialising in family law to help you resolve it. If you are currently unable to resolve any financial disputes relating to divorce, child maintenance or custody, inheritance, or asset ownership, it would be wise to appoint a solicitor who can handle the mediation and negotiation with all parties. Any situation that requires court involvement is going to be challenging, so you need someone on your side who has experience with this process.

  • ----------------------

  • What is mediation?

Mediation is the process entered into by people who are struggling to reach an agreement regarding finances, property, business investments, and assets. Mediation is a voluntary process that requires all parties involved in a dispute to consent to. A dispute can only be resolved when all parties in the mediation reach a resolution agreement. At this point, the resolution becomes binding when it is set down in writing and signed by all parties.
