The team at Clonakilty based solicitors McCarthy + Co. are once again finalists in the prestigious Irish Law Awards 2016 in two separate categories.

This is the fourth year the firm have reached the finals of the national awards for the legal profession having been shortlisted for Legal Innovation in 2013 and then having won the awards for Best Legal Website in 2014 and Best Small Firm in Munster in 2015.

This year the firm have again reached the finals in the Munster Provincial Law Firm of the Year under 5 Solicitors category.Munster Under 5

But that is not all, Managing Partner of the West Cork firm, Flor McCarthy, recently published a book entitled The Solicitor’s Guide to Marketing and Growing a Business.  Flor’s book was launched by the Minister for Justice and Equality Frances Fitzgerald in 2015 and has been extremely favourably received by the profession.  Now the book has also reached the finals of the Irish Law Awards 2016 in the Law Book of the Year category.Cropped 3D Cover

The finals of the Irish Law Awards take place on Friday, 6th May with a black-tie gala evening ceremony hosted by RTE’s Miriam O’Callaghan at the DoubleTree by Hilton, Burlington Road, Dublin 4.

In contentious business, a legal practitioner shall not charge any amount in respect of legal costs expressed as a percentage or proportion of any damages (or other moneys) that may become payable to his or her client or purport to set out the legal costs to be charged to a junior counsel as a specified percentage or proportion of the legal costs paid to a senior counsel. A legal practitioner shall not without the prior written agreement of his or her client deduct or appropriate any amount in respect of legal costs from the amount of any damages or moneys that become payable to the client in respect of legal services that the legal practitioner provided to the client.
